The Role This role is focused on managing a portfolio of private clients and working closely with Partners and Client Relationship Managers to meet the goals of the Private Client Team. It also involves supporting the compliance function within the department, ensuring that both internal policies and external regulations are strictly followed. The role offers flexibility, with the primary base being in Scotland. Key responsibilities of the PCT Manager include: Managing a diverse portfolio of personal tax clients and delivering high-quality tax compliance services Offering expert tax planning advice to clients, collaborating with other members of the Tax Team, Partners, and Client Relationship Managers as needed Overseeing the personal tax return process from start to finish Using tax administration software to monitor tax compliance and maintain accurate internal control records, ensuring quality control procedures are followed Handling written correspondence and negotiations related to HMRC enquiries Communicating directly with HMRC to ensure compliance with statutory requirements, both in writing and verbally Managing billing and Work In Progress (WIP), while ensuring deadlines are met and budgets are adhered to Mentoring and training Tax Seniors and Assistants, providing ongoing feedback and support Delegating tasks effectively to Tax Seniors and Assistants to ensure efficient team operations Contributing to tax advisory and planning projects, as well as managing ad-hoc assignments Collaborating with the client service team and colleagues in other areas to provide a seamless experience for clients Staying up to date with developments in business tax, personal tax, and capital taxes Supporting the firm’s business development activities within the local market Ensuring compliance with both internal tax methodology and risk management standards, as well as external regulatory requirements The Candidate The ideal candidate will be highly organized, efficient, and able to manage competing priorities while proactively meeting deadlines. Strong communication skills are essential for effectively engaging with both internal teams and clients at all levels. A solid understanding of UK tax legislation, along with excellent project and time management skills, is crucial. The successful candidate will be confident in client-facing situations and have strong IT skills, including proficiency in Excel and Word. They should have experience in personal tax, as well as a broad understanding of other taxes, and be familiar with using tax software to prepare personal and corporate tax returns. A professional qualification such as CTA, CA, ATT, or an equivalent is required, and the candidate should demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development.
