Mechanical Engineer required for a sheet metal fabrication company based in Maidenhead. The successful candidate will have similar experience within sheet metal. Predominantly based within the commercial department, but working closely with all aspects of production and the manufacturing departments of the business, the appointed Mechanical Engineer will be involved in the initial cost analysis, development and management of new and existing projects.
Mechanical Engineer - Sheet Metal Position Overview
To aid our customers with original designs, develop and deliver work instructions using our in-house software and knowledge of manufacturing. Seek and develop efficiency improvements within our existing portfolio of parts and processes.
Your Responsibilities
1. Verify existing design/drawings and mechanical criteria ready for manufacture, utilising Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software and standard office software packages (Word/Excel etc).
2. Prepare technical quotations & work instructions for the commercial and production teams for new designs supplied by our varied customer base, using our bespoke software (full training provided).
3. Prepare Manufacturing Instructions for new products to be manufactured in-house.
4. Resolve manufacturing issues through production readiness reviews at the early stages of product design and development.
5. Work closely with design briefs supplied to resolve any design details or discrepancies that may arise once into manufacturing.
6. When necessary, prepare additional drawings from existing solid models or engineering drawings to help aid the ongoing manufacturing process.
Mechanical Engineer - Sheet Metal Position Requirements
1. Shows a clear understanding of engineering principles and an ability to read engineering drawings, with a willingness to learn more about fine limit sheet metal fabrication and finishing.
2. Experience and/or understanding of sheet metal processes and design.
3. Experience of CAD / 3D Modelling, Solid Edge/Solidworks, etc. Preferably in sheet metal.
4. Understanding of products, technical processes, operations and logistics.
5. Good communication skills - The ability to discuss ongoing projects with our customers' design and engineering teams is vital to this role.
6. Experience within the sheet metal engineering field is preferred.
7. Relevant Engineering qualifications in either degree/BTEC standards or technical study or related GCSEs in technical science-based subjects are required.
8. Ability to work in small and large teams.
