A Day in the Life in an adult team:
As a Band 6 Community Psychiatric Nurse in an Adults Community Mental Health Team, no two days are ever the same. Your day might start with a morning handover, where updates on service users and any urgent referrals or changes in risk levels are discussed. From there, you'll plan your priorities, which could include home visits to support service users recently discharged from inpatient care. These visits often involve mental state assessments, medication reviews, and collaborative care planning. You might then join a multi-disciplinary team meeting, working alongside psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other professionals to ensure holistic care. The afternoon could see you responding to an urgent referral, conducting a crisis assessment, and coordinating with other services to provide immediate support.
