Main duties of the job
* To be a professional role model, leading and co-ordinating the specialty team. Take continuing responsibility and accountability for the 24-hour management and organisation of the department. This involves managing a wide range of complex and sometimes conflicting priorities.
* Provide specialist perioperative advice Trust wide to support and facilitate high quality, individualised care to patients/clients and relatives/carers in collaboration with the multi professional team, in line with the local and national targets.
* Ensure that patient care remains the top priority at all times, placing their needs, safety and well-being at the centre of every decision and action.
* Maintain a flexible approach to clinical duties, adapting to changing needs and providing cover across specified areas as required to ensure seamless patient care.

Job Description
Responsibilities:

Person Specification
Education/ Qualifications Essential:
* Registered Nurse or Registered Practitioner (confirmed through NMC / HCPC / professional body)
* Minimum requirement of Degree qualification and post registration qualification applicable to specialist area.
* Mentorship qualification or equivalent teaching experience.
Desirable:
* Critical Care qualification or ALS/ILS
* Evidence of research, audit or service improvement projects.
Experience Essential:
* Minimum of 3 years recent and varied experience in acute surgical speciality
* Level 2/3 critical care experience
* Minimum of 12 months recent experience in managing or supervising a clinical team
* Strong leadership and management experience in clinical setting
* Proficient in clinical governance, risk assessment and service improvement initiatives.
Desirable:
* Previous experience in 2 or more Trusts, or evidence of varied experience within 1 Trust.
Skills/knowledge/ abilities Essential:
* A professional role model. Practices according to policy and NMC Code
* Self-motivated, with drive and initiative. Able to work autonomously and within a team
* Able to care effectively and compassionately for a group of patients if required.
Desirable:
* Research and/or audit experience.
