Responsibilities:
1. To be responsible for the teaching of Music across KS3 and KS4, with the possibility of teaching younger members of the School occasionally.
2. To plan, prepare, determine and review as necessary personal teaching methods and work programmes.
3. To teach and ensure the discipline and safety of assigned timetabled classes and groups with the different educational needs of pupils in mind.
4. To set work and record pupils' work.
5. To promote the general progress and welfare of a class or group of pupils, and provide initial guidance or counselling on educational and social matters.
6. To assess and record pupils' personal and social needs, development, progress and attainment, provide or contribute to oral or written assessments and reports on individual pupils and groups.
7. Contribute to and participate in formal performance, appraisal and review, team planning, self evaluation, in service training and professional development in assigned areas of the curriculum and pastoral arrangements.
8. To advise and operate with colleagues on teaching programmes, methods, equipment and materials within assigned areas of the curriculum.
9. To co-operate with the appropriate specialist agencies, and where appropriate, outside bodies.
10. To take part in arrangements for presenting pupils in public or other examinations and contribute expertise to the preparation and development of courses of study and teaching materials in response to changes in such examinations and assessment procedure.
11. Locate appropriate equipment and materials and obtain prior approval of the Head before ordering.
12. To contribute as required to the appointment, induction, professional development and assessment of junior colleagues including new entrants to teaching.
General Duties:
1. To ensure the safety and good order of pupils by carrying out, in rotation with other staff, daily duties (possibly including a weekend) as directed by the Head or their designated deputy. This includes provision at the start of the pupils’ day, mid morning break, midday break, afternoon tea and such time in the evening that is considered necessary by the Head or their designated deputy for the safety and good order of pupils remaining in the school on the completion of lessons or prep.
2. To consult and liaise with parents attending meetings arranged for that purpose.
3. To participate in staff meetings and activities.
4. To undertake an appropriate share of the collective staff responsibility; substitute for an absent colleague when required as laid down by the Head or their designated deputy.
5. To be available for school functions such as parent/teacher meetings, social events, arrival and departure of boarding children with their parents, and other such gatherings, and to undertake any duties of organisation which are required by members of staff in control of such events.
6. To carry out an appropriate share of such administrative or organisational tasks as flow naturally from the above duties.
7. To carry out other related duties and responsibilities in the school as may reasonably be allocated, as the need arises, by the Head or their designated deputy.
