Funeral Service Operative
Salary: £25,000 - £26,000 (pro rata) + overtime
Permanent: Full Time or Part Time
Alexander Burn Funeral Directors is an independent family-run business with offices in Cheltenham, Bishop’s Cleeve, Winchcombe, and Tewkesbury. We are committed to providing the highest level of bereavement care in all communities. Caring for that lost loved one and assisting the family with such an important event as the funeral is not only a privilege for us, but also a tremendous demonstration of trust placed in us by the family.
The duties of a Funeral Service Operative will include but are not limited to:
1. Driving the private ambulance and bringing the deceased into our care, with respect and dignity.
2. Cleaning, preparing, driving, and chauffeuring funeral vehicles, such as the hearse and limousines. Ensuring vehicles are always in pristine condition.
3. Preparing, washing, and dressing the deceased ready for chapel of rest visits.
4. Taking instructions from the Funeral Director on the day of the funeral.
5. Pallbearing - carrying the coffin on the shoulder.
6. Ensuring all premises, vehicles, and equipment are cleaned, tidied, and well maintained.
7. Adhering to strict procedures, completing mortuary registers, and transporting confidential paperwork.
This is a physically demanding role; therefore, the right candidate must have a good level of physical fitness and be comfortable with heavy lifting.
Furthermore, the right candidate must:
1. Have excellent communication skills with the ability to be professional, compassionate, and reassuring to bereaved families from all walks of life.
2. Be committed to work as part of a team and be an equal team player.
3. Understand the importance of confidentiality and discretion.
4. Have a calm, humble, and caring demeanor.
5. Have a full UK Driving license.
As we operate 24/7, 7 days a week; the successful candidate must be flexible to take part in the out-of-hours rota. This takes place in the evenings and weekends on a rota system. Due to our response time, you must be able to attend our premises within 30 minutes.
