Job Background :
The Police College aims to develop and inspire resourceful and flexible police officers and police staff who consistently demonstrate policing with the community behaviours.
The first aid trainer provides PSNI officers and staff with the necessary knowledge and skills to administer first aid to injured and ill people until professional medical help arrives. They are required to stay up-to-date with changes to first aid processes and procedures, and to incorporate these developments into the PSNI’s first aid training.
Successful candidates will be required to wear Police Staff Trainer’s uniform.
Hours of Work : Monday – Friday 37 hours per week (42 hours gross).
Salary : £30,721 - £31,352. Plus £1365pa environmental allowance.
Main Activities :
The main duties and responsibilities associated with the role include the following :
* plan and prepare first aid courses.
* prepare and develop classroom resources.
* facilitate training by engaging, supporting and assessing learners.
* maintain a high standard of training and educational activities, and observe assurance procedures.
* Evaluate and improve the first aid course.
* Liaise with college administration staff to book training facilities and equipment.
* Liaise with the local training co-ordinators regarding class numbers, non-attenders and those unsuccessful during training.
* Have regular contact with the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service regarding continuous training and improvement and joint training exercises.
* Manage their learning environment including adapting to individual learners needs, where possible. This may include discussions or images which students may find emotionally distressing.
* Teach and assess all candidates under your care including retesting and identifying those who are unsuccessful and require further training.
* Take the role of lead trainer on occasions when co-facilitating a lesson.

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
A minimum of a regulated Level 4 First Response Emergency Care or Equivalent (including appropriate renewal certification) AND a minimum Level 3 Award in Training and Education/D32/D33 or A1 Assessors Award.
Essential Skills and Experience
12 months’ post-certification experience in a similar role, including:
* planning and preparing first aid learning and development (course design)
* developing and preparing resources for learning and development
* delivering training, including facilitating, engaging, supporting and assessing learners
* maintaining high training standards and observing quality assurance procedures, acting where appropriate and evaluating and improving first aid courses.
Essential Other
* IT literate specifically in the use of the Microsoft Office suite. (Including MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel and MS Outlook).
* The successful candidate must have access to a form of transport which will enable them to fulfil the responsibilities of the job in full.
Desirable Qualifications
* Level 5 Certificate in Learning and Development (Successful candidates must complete this qualification on appointment)
Desirable Skills and Experience
* Experience in carrying out risk assessments.
