Role Overview: As a Graduate Teaching Assistant (SEMH), you'll assist students with SEMH needs, helping them build confidence, manage their emotions, and succeed in their studies. You'll work closely with teachers and staff to deliver engaging lessons, support one-to-one and in small groups, and create a positive classroom atmosphere. Key Responsibilities of a Graduate Teaching Assistant (SEMH): Provide academic, emotional, and behavioural support to students with SEMH needs. Assist in planning and delivering tailored activities to meet students’ needs. Foster a nurturing and structured environment to promote positive behaviour. Work with teachers and external professionals to implement personalised learning strategies. Help students manage emotions and develop coping mechanisms. Build strong relationships with students, acting as a mentor and role model. Monitor and report on students' progress to ensure they reach their potential. Encourage self-confidence, social skills, and a sense of belonging. Requirements to be a Graduate Teaching Assistant (SEMH): A relevant degree in Psychology, Education, Social Work, or a related field (preferred but not essential). Experience working with children or young people, especially those with SEMH needs (desirable). A passion for supporting vulnerable students and helping them succeed. Strong communication skills and the ability to build good relationships with students and staff. A patient and empathetic approach to working with children facing challenges. Willingness to undergo training in behaviour management and SEMH support. Understanding of safeguarding procedures and a commitment to providing a safe learning environment.
