The bereavement support nurse, as a clinical specialist who will provide support to families who have experienced the death of a baby within the neonatal setting. This will commence at the decision for palliatative care / redirection of care, supporting through the babys death and to continue once the family has gone home. The post holder will provide guidance and support to nursing and medical staff when caring for families experiencing neonatal death. They will assist in the co-ordination of care given to ensure consistency of high care leading to a high quality seamless service. The post holder will be expected to work clinically supporting staff to provide care to these babies and their families. Ensuring families are supported through the process, following guidelines, co-ordinating and attending follow-up clinics. Co ordinating with external agencies, ensuring that all aspects of neonatal process are correctly completed.
