Hours: 10 hours per week (2 hours per day Mon to Fri)
A kind and friendly 79 year old gentleman with moderate learning difficulties, looking for a friendly assistant to help with keeping on top of everyday chores in the flat; prompting him to carry out personal hygiene tasks and to change his clothes when necessary, and to take his medication; taking him out in the car occasionally to do some shopping; and accompany him on walks in nearby towns such as Llanybydder, Lampeter and Aberaeron; taking him to his medical and dental appointments; and helping him find suitable social events and gatherings in the local area where he can socialize in a safe and happy environment.
Principal duties and responsibilities:
Supporting the employer with encouragement in gaining independence
Supporting the employer to develop independent living skills –
Help him keep on top of everyday chores in the flat such as the laundry and the dishes
Accompanying the employer on regular walks around town during the week, and occasionally taking him out by car to shop and for walks in nearby locations such as Llanybydder, Lampeter and Aberaeron when required.
Prompting the employer to carry out personal hygiene tasks when necessary, change his clothes when necessary and take his medication on time.
To provide companionship in the employer’s home, including engaging in conversation with them and providing them with social interaction
Possibly helping with finding suitable social events or gatherings in the local area such as OAP Lunch gatherings or an art class, and taking him there.
Encouraging the employer to attend appointments and taking him by car to any medical or dental appointments, usually in Llanybydder or in Lampeter
Ensuring the employer’s safety at all times during your working hours
To carry out any other reasonable tasks that are requested by the employer during your working hours
To ensure compliance with Data Protection Act.

Be responsible for contacting the GP, Social Worker or Local Authority should the employer need medical assistance.

Job Working Environment:
Working in employer’s homes and supporting them to access facilities and community activities.
Person specification – Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience & Skills:

3. Proactive and self-motivated with the ability to work on own initiative.
4. Has good local knowledge of the area where the employer lives.
5. Good time-keeping and flexibility around working patterns and duties as determined by the employer’s requirements.
6. Ability to keep simple records such as time recording.
7. Good communicator able to talk to people on behalf of the employer when required.
8. Able to develop long-term supportive and consistent relationships with employers.
9. A full, clean driving licence and use of a car is likely to be required. This is determined by the needs of the employer and whether you live within walking distance.
10. You must be prepared to have business use on your vehicle insurance to be able to use the vehicle within work hours
11. Be prepared to undergo training in order to best meet the employers need.
