Burton Park is a 50 bedded neurobehavioural locked rehabilitation hospital for patients with acquired brain injury and neuro-progressive conditions. The multi-disciplinary team includes psychology, nursing, occupational therapy, speech & language therapy, physiotherapy, social workers and medical professionals. Burton Park is a member of the Independent Neurorehabilitation Providers Alliance (INPA).
Job Advert Role Description
We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic clinician to join our friendly team at Burton Park neurorehabilitation hospital. You will be expected to have a broad range of experience in neurorehabilitation and have provided care and treatment for service users with an acquired brain injury or traumatic brain injury including stroke and progressive neurological conditions.. Experience in assessing and developing treatment plans for service users with the above conditions are essential.
You will join a proactive team of therapists and therapy support workers that are dedicated and passionate about providing high quality therapy therapy for our service users
Your role of as a Band 6 Occupational Therapist is to be the senior OT clinician for your team; managing own caseload and complex cases; assess, treat and rehabilitate your service users on site and prepare them for either discharge back into their own homes or to a stepdown facility. You will also be required to provide clinical and therapeutic support and supervision to OT/rehab assistants.
You will provide specialist assessments, interventions, guidance to support service users whilst an inpatient at the site and or in their home environments and escalate risks, train staff and service users.
Support the HD, Docs and service managers to implement change. Actively participate in service development and staff management.
Job responsibilities
The post holder will work as a member of the multidisciplinary rehabilitation team
The post holder will support other teams within the hospital as needed.
The post holder will provide a comprehensive and high quality OT and care management to service users with simple to complex needs
The post holder will be actively involved in team and service developments with the support of line manager.
To develop strong working relationships within the multidisciplinary team.
To provide supervision to the OT/Rehabilitation Assistants
To be actively involved in Continuing Professional Development.
To be involved in caseload management with varied patients who have mobility, musculoskeletal, cognitive and neurological problems.
Community visits to clients may be made on foot, public transport, motorcycle, bicycle or car.
Essential
Degree or Diploma in Occupational therapy
Registration with the Health Care Professions Council
Experience working in neurorehabilitation
Essential
Able to apply problem-solving skills to complex situations, which may include clinical or organisational issues.
Experience of supervising junior and non-qualified staff, including participation in personal development reviews.
Experience of organising/writing/participating MDT and reports.
Demonstrates comprehensive clinical experience enabling the post holder to manage a caseload of patients with complex needs in this speciality.
Significant experience of working with neurological and musculo-skeletal conditions and will include experience in discharge planning
Knowledge of outcome measure tools relevant to Occupational therapy, and ability to select and justify their use.
Able to communicate highly complex and sensitive information in written, verbal and presentational form to service users, carers and staff within the hospital and across other organisations.
Highly developed clinical reasoning skills with an ability to develop client centred, realistic and achievable goals.
high level of organisation skills and ability to prioritise caseloads and identify areas of unmet need
Able to identify and recognise when to seek advice and support concerning clinical, managerial, professional or organisational issues.
Able to demonstrate staff management and mentoring skills; supervised junior staff
Able to demonstrate knowledge/management of staff conflict (scenario) or staff challenging behaviours
Understanding of current legislation and application to Occupational Therapy.
