The Role
Job Purpose:
The Early Years Practitioner will work as part of a team to plan, support and develop the education and care of young children aged 3 to 5 years.
Key Outputs & Responsibilities:
1. Plan, develop and extend learning for all children
2. Organise and lead small group and individual activities
3. Be the key worker for a group of children
4. Liaise with other nursery staff to share information about individual children
5. Follow health and safety and child protection guidelines and procedures at all times
6. Assist in the organising, layout and clearing of the indoor and outdoor play areas ensuring all equipment is hygienic and well maintained
7. Attend to all aspects of children’s care and wellbeing, including assisting with toileting and changing, administering first aid and medication
8. Fostering and maintaining good relations with children, colleagues and parents
9. Participate in reporting and progress monitoring for children
10. Engage in Staff Review and CPD
11. Participate in nursery staff meetings
12. Contribute to the development and implementation of the nursery improvement plan
13. Ensure the positive management of children’s behaviour at all times
14. Undertaking such other duties as the Rector may from time to time determine
Person Specification
1. SNNB / HNC In Childcare / Education or equivalent
2. Significant experience of working in early years establishments
3. A dynamic approach to learning and teaching
4. Empathy with children - especially aged 3-5
5. Enthusiasm and drive
6. An open and approachable manner
7. A comprehensive knowledge of current Early Years educational initiatives and procedures according to National guidelines
8. The ability work within a team
9. Excellent oral and written communication skills
10. Excellent observational and organisational skills
11. High standard of IT skills
12. Ability to communicate and liaise effectively and sensitively with parents
13. A commitment to ongoing professional development
14. Ability to work on own initiative
15. Flexibility and a sense of humour
