Purpose of job
Birketts opened a new full-service office in Sevenoaks, Kent in April 2023 and the Corporate team has ambitious growth plans, to expand its reach into the Kent / Surrey / Sussex geographical area, through recruitment in Sevenoaks and with the support of the entire firmwide Corporate team.
We are looking to recruit an individual who has the drive and commitment to assist Birketts’ in the continued growth and development of our firmwide corporate practice and to become an essential core member of the Partnership, and in particular to support Sevenoaks Corporate partner Matthew Miles to build and develop the Corporate team in Sevenoaks. You will be involved in a range of business development activities, including attending networking and BD events, supporting on tenders/pitches, and drafting sector-relevant articles for our own and external publications.
In support of our growth ambitions in Sevenoaks we are also seeking to recruit a Senior Associate/Legal Director to the Sevenoaks Corporate team, and additional junior lawyers in due course.
Accountabilities
The successful candidate will have an exceptional knowledge of the law yet be able to think commercially and analytically to provide accurate and practical advice to clients and high net worth individuals which is tailored to their needs, with an ability to think clearly under pressure and write concisely. You will also be expected to play an active role in marketing and practice development as well as providing a prominent level of service to existing clients. As a Partner, we would also expect you to have experience of managing client relationships, and to have in depth knowledge of the region, and to have existing relationships with the business community in the region.

1. Technically capable corporate lawyer with experience of advising on buy side and sell side transactions, along with other general corporate transactions such as reorganisations and corporate joint ventures.
2. Specialist experience of private equity, venture capital, EOT transactions, share incentive schemes or any our firm wide sector specialisms, would be an advantage.
3. The ability to manage transactions independently, supervising junior team members as necessary.
4. You will have experience of working with startups, owner managed businesses and family-owned businesses, as well as large corporate clients, PE houses and funds.
5. Knowledge of motivating a team, ensuring junior staff are supported in line with our Learning & Development policies.
