About the Role
The Vision Support Team has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed Senior Teacher of the Visually Impaired. We welcome applications from Qualified Teachers of the Visually Impaired with the PGDip/MA Mandatory Qualification for Teachers of Children and Young People with Visual Impairment and experience of working in a peripatetic role. The successful applicant will work with the Team Manager to contribute to service development, leading on specific areas of work and providing effective performance management within the team. They will also have responsibility for a caseload of visually impaired children and sharing good practice in the teaching of visually impaired children including braille and assistive technologies.
The Vision Support Service is made up of a team of Qualified Teachers of the Visually Impaired (QTVIs), Resource Technicians, Assistive Technology Specialists and Practitioners. The post involves working with families, schools and early years settings across Leicestershire to support positive outcomes for visually impaired children and young people aged 0-25.
A DBS enhanced check for a regulated activity is required for this post.
About You
To apply for this post, you must:
* Degree level qualification and Qualified Teacher Status, with the additional Mandatory Qualification in the Education of Visually Impaired Children
* Good interpersonal skills, the ability to lead, be an effective member of a team, delegate appropriately, solve problems and resolve conflicts sensitively and decisively
* Substantial experience in working directly with pupils with a visual impairment and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities to improve outcomes and support inclusion
* Experience of involvement in team development and review. In addition, delivery of training including in-service training to teachers
* Experience of working in partnership with schools, other support services, statutory and voluntary agencies to improve outcomes for pupils with a visual impairment and SEND
* An understanding of and commitment to, Equal Opportunities and Safeguarding Children and the ability to apply this to strategic work and day-to-day situations
* Access to a vehicle and ability to travel to families and children across the County
