Job Title - Deputy Surgical Unit Manager
Hours - 37.5 hours per week
Salary - £41,441 and above, dependent on experience (plus night and weekend enhancements).
Description
St Joseph's Hospital are looking for a full time Deputy Surgical Unit Manager to join the Ward and Day Surgery Unit.
Duties and responsibilities
* Provide effective managerial and clinical leadership of departmental staff in conjunction with, or in the absence of, the unit manager.
* Promote an open and safe culture for communication with colleagues and the multi-disciplinary team and proactively manage feedback from patients, relatives and carers seeking to resolve concerns at a local level and escalating as appropriate.
* Be a role model contributing to the knowledge and clinical expertise of the team through supporting access to a robust induction programme for new starters, ongoing clinical supervision, implementing educational activities to support learning, mentorship and a commitment to the appraisal process.
* In conjunction with the manager support the operational management of the unit in relation to preparing duty rotas and managing absence (holidays, sickness, other types of leave) to ensure efficient utilisation of the workforce.
* Support the manager by demonstrating strong skills around communication (written and verbal) with an emphasis ensuring legible, appropriate and timely documentation is always available and current in relation to patients.
* Have a positive commitment to robust medicines management.
* Embed a culture of promoting a commitment to clinical governance, incident management, risk management and health and safety.
* Take a lead role in identifying, developing and undertaking multi-disciplinary audits and ensuring outcomes are shared with colleagues embracing a culture of learning lessons.
* Contribute to the writing of policies, procedures, guidelines and protocols.
* Assist in the effective management of the department consumables budget.
* To ensure that the team complies with all hospital policies and guidelines.
What you need to know
Essential
1st level registration.
In possession of or working towards a professional or management degree.
Competence in the management of the surgical patient.
Demonstrate an interest in research and audit.
Demonstrate an awareness of change management.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Strong IT skills.
Experience of ward/ department management.
High level of personal and professional credibility.
Diplomatic and sensitive to the needs of others.
Ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service.
Desirable
Evidence of Management/Leadership in previous roles.
