A member of a small team carrying out both planned and unplanned work, preventative maintenance and repairs at all levels of a fleet of over 700 core ambulances, SRVs, 4x4s, plus a variety of support vehicles from a diverse range of manufacturers. Working shifts on a 37.50 hour working week.
Responsibilities include:
1. Examine, inspect, and report thoroughly on the condition, roadworthiness, or safety of any vehicle or equipment, including testing and use of diagnostic techniques.
2. Regularly communicate technical information with line managers, colleagues, and other SECAmb staff by phone and e-mail.
3. Arrange appointments and prepare vehicles for Ministry Testing at Class IV and VII as per the Ministry of Transport testers manual.
4. Service, maintain, adjust, or repair vehicles, equipment, or any component using the necessary tools, equipment, and facilities in a safe and efficient manner, within the manufacturer and core ICME repair times, including:
1. Electrical work
2. Welding
3. Fabrication
4. Hydraulics
5. Air-conditioning
6. Heaters
5. Diagnose faults using state-of-the-art computer diagnostic tools, i.e., Mercedes Star, and correctly read diagnostic fault codes.
6. Interpret and implement service data and statutory maintenance standards to ensure all work is up to a standard to support emergency service work.
7. Recover any broken down or immobilised vehicle or equipment in a safe manner without risk to staff and public or additional damage to SECAmb property in accordance with accepted legislation.
8. Apply SECAmb policies regarding safety, maintenance practice, and standards to ensure maximum benefit in terms of vehicle availability and minimising maintenance costs.
9. Account for all parts and equipment used by means of booking out on the fleet software package.
10. Order and receive parts from external suppliers.
11. Complete all required SECAmb documentation and other documentation as required in a legible manner.
12. Supervise and instruct, where required, apprentices and semi-skilled staff, and attend any training courses as required by SECAmb.
