ACEVO is looking for a treasurer to monitor our financial administration and report back to fellow trustees on the organisation’s state of financial health.
If you share our vision of seeing civil society leaders making the biggest possible difference and want to be part of a trustee board providing strategy, scrutiny and support for the CEO and executive team delivering our purpose, we'd love to hear from you.
As treasurer, you’ll work with our head of finance and operations to oversee the presentation of budgets, internal management accounts and annual financial statements to the board of trustees. You’ll chair our finance and audit committee and be a member of the remuneration committee. You’ll keep an eye on our reserves, make sure we’re sticking to our financial systems and procedures, help steer us through financial risk management and lead board-level liaison with our external auditors. It adds up to around 4-6 hours a month in total.
You’ll already have knowledge of financial planning and auditing, an accountancy qualification/expertise, and knowledge of charity finance. Previous experience of being a trustee would also be useful but not essential – the successful candidate will have access to a comprehensive induction process.
As an ACEVO trustee, we’d expect you to have:
1. a commitment to ACEVO’s vision, mission and values
2. willingness to devote the time and effort needed to fulfil the role
3. a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, and to contributing to a positive working culture
4. integrity and a willingness to speak your mind
5. strategic vision
6. good, independent judgement
7. an ability to think creatively
8. an understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship
9. an ability to work effectively as a member of a team and to take decisions for the good of ACEVO.
Our values are to be member-driven, connected, inclusive, ambitious, and honest so the more you can demonstrate those attributes the better.
At ACEVO, we are deeply committed to antiracism, equity, and diversity, and we work intentionally to maintain a balance of gender, race, sexuality, and disability around our board table. We will particularly welcome applicants of global majority backgrounds who have the necessary financial qualifications for the role.
The treasurer role is a co-opted position appointed annually, to a maximum of six terms.
The deadline for applications is 8am on Monday 17 February 2025.
