We are seeking an experienced and motivated Production CAD Engineer to join our busy and growing organisation. The role offers a dynamic opportunity to work on redesigning products, converting designs to 3D CAD, optimising production processes and collaborating on continuous improvement initiatives. This is a multi-site role where you will play a critical role in ensuring the efficiency and manufacturability of our products while supporting prototype development and production readiness.
The role will be based at our Telford and Brierley Hill site, but will require occasional travel to Milton Keynes.
Key responsibilities:
1. Maintain production drawings for existing and new product introduction.
2. Conduct Design / manufacturing feasibility for new and existing products to ensure cost effective manufacturing solutions.
3. Redesign existing products to incorporate new processes and optimise manufacturing efficiency.
4. Take existing 2D CAD designs, convert them to 3D CAD, and process them for laser cutting. Assist with the production of prototypes and measure their suitability for production.
5. Work cross-functionally to identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives across design and production.
6. Design and optimize tools, jigs, and fixtures to support manufacturing and assembly processes.
7. Produce and maintain detailed technical drawings, BOMs, and process guides.
8. Work closely with production, quality, and engineering teams to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
9. Ensure prototypes and final designs meet quality standards and are production ready.
Required experience/skills/qualifications:
1. Proficiency on 3D CAD software such as SOLIDWORKS, Inventor, or similar.
2. Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, including machining, fabrication, and assembly.
3. Solid understanding of design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA).
4. Hands-on problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
5. Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Desirable:
1. Experience with Radan or similar laser cutting software.
2. 2-3 years of experience in toolmaking, jig, or fixture design.
3. Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
4. Familiarity with FEA tools for design analysis.
5. Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and methodologies.
