A supportive and inclusive secondary school in Edware, North London, is looking for a Psychology graduate keen to gain experience with young people. This role involves supporting a student with SEMH (social, emotional and mental health) needs in a mainstream secondary environment. It would suit a Psychology graduate with a good understanding of SEMH needs, looking to gain practical experience. This role is for a January start and involves working 1-1 with a student with SEMH needs. Experience working with children/young people is ideal, but the most important thing is a desire to support young people and help them thrive.
As a SEMH teaching assistant, you will be supporting both the staff and students. The school has a flexible and inclusive ethos, ensuring consistently high expectations for all. They are looking for a proactive and enthusiastic individual keen to make a difference and support young people. This could also suit a recent psychology (or similar) graduate with a strong understanding of SEMH needs, with limited practical experience.
This is a full-time, long-term role in a mainstream secondary school, with trials commencing from the 6th of January.
Required:
1. A Bachelor's degree in Psychology (or closely related subject)
2. Interest in working with children (ideally with SEN/SEMH)
3. Experience working with secondary school children (age 11-16) in some capacity (desirable but not essential)
4. Right to work in the UK
5. Either have or be willing to get an enhanced DBS on the update service, plus provide two references
Responsibilities:
Exact responsibilities will depend on the role but may include:
1. Working with children aged 11-16 operating classes in various subjects.
2. Helping children with special educational needs.
3. Engaging with students for 4-5 periods.
4. Treating children with respect and kindness.
