About the role
Due to career progression and parental leave, we are pleased to be able to offer both permanent and temporary Solicitor roles within the Fitness to Practise department of the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).
In this role, you will be a part of the team that ensures that the right people work with some of the most vulnerable in society in the areas of social work, social care, and children and young people services. Your work will include investigating a wide variety of concerns raised about social service workers, providing legal advice on the course of action the SSSC should take, and presenting cases at panel hearings.
What you need to succeed
You must demonstrate that you:
* have relevant qualifications and experience (we welcome applications from trainees who will complete their traineeship by late summer 2025)
* can make evidence-based decisions on nuanced matters and record your reasons clearly
* communicate clearly, sensitively, and using plain language
* share our values of working together, responsibility and accountability, respect and recognition
* can manage your own workload and work autonomously with minimal supervision
Why work for us
You will be part of a large legal team in an organisation that values the contribution of each person. You will have lots of support to achieve your own personal goals while making a real difference.
We are an ambitious, enthusiastic, and supportive organisation. With around 300 employees, you can really make an impact here. We offer a generous salary, flexible working arrangements, a full range of benefits, a local government pension scheme, and up to 43 days holiday (dependent on service).
Our office is in Dundee, and we have an agile working policy that supports office and remote working arrangements, depending on the requirements of each job, which we are happy to discuss with candidates. All staff are required to attend the office at times for meetings, training, and staff events.
New members of the team are asked to be in the office more often (usually two days per week) for the first six to eight weeks.
