This physical role involves working in a team, outside in all weathers, if this sounds like a job you would enjoy, we would love to hear from you Our Field teams have a range of technical skills used to deliver watercourse and asset maintenance by maintaining flood defences you’ll protect people, property and infrastructure from flooding. The rivers you will work on include rare chalk streams that are vital for our environment. The team handle a variety of specialist equipment including plant and boats to support the prevention or mitigation of incidents including:- Maintaining and repairing watercourse and flood defence assets Grass cutting, tree works, removing blockages, clearing trash screens and minor construction works Inspection of assets to ensure public safety This role covers work within confined spaces and all applicants must be willing and able to do so. If you already have a High-risk level 3 confined space with rescue qualification, we will appoint as a Team member 3 (£25,397). If you currently do not have this qualification, we will need to appoint you as at Team member 2 (£22,979) and we will provide the relevant training. There will be a future Team member 3 recruitment opportunity, likely within 24 months of your hire date. As a new member of Field Operations, you will be expected to enrol on the Water Environment Worker (WEW) Level 3 Apprenticeship: the primary mechanism for training new employees in Field Operations. The team You will be joining the Middle Lee Team based at our Amwell depot in Ware. You would be expected to travel to your base depot daily where you will be dispersed in teams to carry out field work tasks in your catchment – This covers Hertford and Ware down to Waltham Abbey. More on this and shift patterns will be explained at interview. Part time and job-share requests will be considered on an individual basis. Experience/skills Required What do you need? Essential: A good understanding of health and safety requirements and an ability to ensure procedures are followed. Experience of working with others Good communication skills so instructions can be understood To be literate and numerate The ability to carry out tasks and answer queries effectively Competency in using IT devices, such as an iPad, and willingness to learn our in-house systems (training will be given) A full-UK driving licence The ability and willingness to work in confined spaces High-risk level 3 confined space with rescue qualification. If you already have this formal qualification starting salary will be as advertised. If you haven’t your starting grade will be Team Member 2 with a salary of £22,979 and full training for the qualification will be given. You will take part in a regular standby roster and respond to incidents or emergencies 24/7 - this attracts additional pay to your basic salary.
