Primary Care Mental Health Nurse skills and attributions: To deliver Primary care recovery focused Psychological Interventions that meet the need of service users who are too complex and/or not suitable for Talking Therapies yet do not meet the threshold for the Psychological Therapies in Secondary care mental health. Post holders will have a high level of autonomy working across designated GP practices, managing their own clinics. To review patients presenting with mental health issues, consider a range of options regarding treatment interventions providing them with highly specialised advice concerning care when appropriate and liaising with GPs and MH teams. To have excellent assessment skills and be able to direct care with compassion and efficiency promote mental health, and liaise with a wide range of statutory and non-statutory organisations. To be a confident communicator and be able to work well with a range of professionals. The ability to manage your own case load of clients is paramount, along with the ability to triage referrals for the non-urgent mental health pathway, undertake mental health assessments, risk assessment, deliver therapeutic interventions in an accessible way for those who may struggle to engage in formal structured approaches and refer/signpost clients to other services. The role demands the ability to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of often challenging mental health problems presented by clients within a primary care mental health setting.
