Assistant Production Planner

At Marley, we're not just making roofs; we're shaping the skyline. As a cornerstone of the UK roofing industry for over a century, our products have crowned some of the nation's most prestigious landmarks. Today, as part of Marshalls plc, the UK's leading hard landscaping, building, and roofing products supplier, we continue to lead the way, combining a rich heritage with the strength of a successful FTSE 250 company and Superbrand since 2010!
Manufacturing is at the heart of what we do. It’s where we bring our promises to life, creating the UK’s leading landscape, building, and roofing products. We're continually investing in our people, processes, and plants, and we're now looking for a passionate Assistant Production Planner to join our dedicated Planning team at our Burton on Trent site.
As our Assistant Production Planner, you'll be at the heart of our operations, ensuring we have the right roofing products, at the right time. Working closely with the Planning Manager, you'll be involved in both the big picture (long-term strategy) and the day-to-day (keeping things running smoothly). This means juggling everything from upcoming orders and sales forecasts to production capacity and stock levels across our five UK manufacturing sites.
What's the mission?
Imagine being the conductor of our supply chain orchestra! You'll orchestrate the flow of components, ensuring a steady supply to meet customer demand, and proactively spotting and solving any potential hiccups along the way. And because we believe in teamwork, you'll play a vital role in our Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) process, collaborating with other teams to make sure we're all on the same page.
Your day-to-day will be dynamic and varied. You'll take charge of managing all internal stock transfers between our concrete sites, ensuring we maintain optimum stock levels and satisfy customer orders. This includes creating the necessary transfers and investigating and resolving any issues that may arise, such as late transfers or incorrect/damaged products. You'll also be responsible for managing the supply of all our Traded Goods at our concrete sites. This involves analysing stock, demand, and buying patterns, raising orders with our suppliers in line with their service levels, and collaborating with our Operations colleagues to ensure we maintain just the right stocking levels—avoiding both shortages and excess inventory. You'll also be the go-to person for resolving any supply-related issues that pop up.
You’ll directly manage the day-to-day production planning for one of our concrete sites. This involves analysing both stock and demand to create efficient production plans. You’ll carefully consider factors like capacity, resources, and raw materials to maximise output and minimise costly changeovers. As a true problem-solver, you’ll monitor production, anticipate potential issues, and take swift action to keep everything on track.
Beyond the daily operations, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to our long-term success. You’ll be involved in managing our stock profile for our Traded Goods, making recommendations for optimising our inventory, and even contributing to our long-term strategy.
What skills, experience and knowledge you’ll need:
* Advanced user of Microsoft applications including Excel and the ability to convert complex data into simple information
* Highly analytical and numerical
* Excellent problem-solving skills and have a keen eye for detail
* Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels, both internally and externally
* Ability to prioritise workload effectively and be self-motivated
For extra points, you’ll also have:
* Knowledge of SAP systems and processes
* An understanding of sales and operations planning
* Experience in working with large numbers of SKUs
What we offer: Alongside a competitive salary and benefits package, we offer a supportive and engaging work environment where you can develop your skills and contribute to a successful and growing business. You'll be part of a team that's passionate about what they do, and you'll have the opportunity to make a real impact!
