Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Packhouse Manager to oversee the efficient operation of our produce packing facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a team, ensuring production targets are met, maintaining quality standards, and driving continuous improvement. This role requires strong leadership skills, excellent organisational abilities, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities:
* Oversee the day-to-day operations of the packhouse, ensuring efficiency and productivity.
* Lead and manage a team of Assistant Managers, Line Leaders, and packhouse staff.
* Ensure that all produce is packed to meet quality standards, customer specifications, and compliance regulations.
* Monitor workflow and implement strategies to optimise efficiency, minimise waste, and reduce costs.
* Ensure all health & safety, hygiene, and food safety standards are adhered to.
* Coordinate with the procurement, logistics, and sales teams to align packhouse operations with business needs.
* Maintain and improve packhouse equipment, ensuring all machinery is in good working order.
* Develop and implement training programs for staff to enhance performance and efficiency.
* Provide coaching and support to the team.
* Monitor and report key performance indicators (KPIs) and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Skills & Experience:
* Previous experience in a packhouse management role within the fresh produce or food industry.
* Strong leadership and people management skills, with experience in supervising a diverse team.
* Excellent understanding of quality control, food safety, and compliance standards.
* Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
* Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing demands.
* Knowledge of health and safety regulations and best practices.
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with packhouse management software (desirable).
