Job Title: Principal Manufacturing Engineer – Design for Manufacture Location: Barrow-in-Furness – Onsite Salary: Competitive What you’ll be doing: Reviewing all internal and external customer interface requirements and confirming or defining the overall tolerance requirement for the build Working in conjunction with the Engineering, Quality Control and MBP to define proposed datum systems and tolerance cascades/aggregation, based on agreed build philosophies, variation analysis and the current manufacturing capabilities Feeding back the tolerances and datum schemes into the design process on the 2D drawing outputs and 3D models in order to capture the design for manufacturing and assembly intent Supporting Manufacturing Build Planning through interaction with Dimensional Control to confirm mandatory hold and inspection points in the build sequence and production routings Identifying appropriate measurement and setting techniques to support an efficient and accurate build sequence, which will maintain the design intent Specifying tools and techniques to be included in manufacturing instructions and provide the build teams with the capability to control key product characteristics at each stage of the build Setting build tolerances to manage tolerance aggregation and ensure these are marked on drawings separately to the design tolerances set by Engineering Your skills and experiences: Essential HNC or equivalent technical qualification or significant experience CEng / IEng accredited, or willingness to work towards achieving it Leadership and Management Qualifications / Programmes or equivalent (either already awarded, or willingness to obtain) Project Management experience Ability to analyse complex problems and identify the most critical issues Desirable An excellent understanding of all relevant tools (software based or otherwise) Benefits: As well as a competitive pension scheme, BAE Systems also offers employee share plans, an extensive range of flexible discounted health, wellbeing and lifestyle benefits, including a green car scheme, private health plans and shopping discounts – you may also be eligible for an annual incentive. The Process and Standards team: As a part of the Process and Standards team, you will be reporting to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager. The purpose of the team is primarily to ensure that we have suitable and effective processes and people capabilities in place for the Manufacturing Engineering function. You will have the opportunity to influence decisions and enable the Operations teams to deliver the design intent safely and in the most efficient way.
