About the role:
The Continuous Improvement Engineer within BSI’s Product Certification Division will play a pivotal role in enhancing the operational efficiency and effectiveness of our testing processes.
Based at our Hemel Hempstead location, with responsibilities extending to our Loughborough site, this position is integral to supporting and optimizing the performance of our testing operations through continuous process improvements and efficiency gains.
The successful candidate will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to identify areas for improvement, implement innovative solutions, and ensure the highest standards of quality and productivity are met. This role is crucial in driving operational excellence, maintaining our commitment to product certification integrity, and contributing to BSI's reputation for exceptional service delivery.
Responsibilities:
1. Conduct thorough analysis of existing processes to identify areas for improvement.
2. Implement efficiency gains using methodologies such as 5S and Six Sigma to optimize operations and reduce waste.
3. Develop and execute strategies for continuous process improvements, ensuring alignment with BSI’s local & Global strategic objectives.
4. Lead and manage projects with autonomy, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to quality standards.
5. Influence and gain buy-in from key stakeholders, including cross-functional teams and senior management, for proposed changes and improvements.
6. Develop comprehensive process maps detailing assets and equipment versus the standards they serve.
7. Work with the laboratory managers to ensure optimal utilization of equipment and workforce to maximize productivity and efficiency.
8. Create and validate Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and related data to track and measure process performance.
9. Identify opportunities for efficiency gains within the process and implement standardized solutions.
10. Lead Lean/Six Sigma projects to drive testing process improvements and quality enhancements.
11. Foster a culture of continuous improvement by training and mentoring team members on CI & quality improvement methodologies.
12. Prepare detailed reports and documentation on testing process improvements, efficiency gains, and project outcomes.
13. Ensure all process changes and improvements are well-documented and communicated across the organization.
To be successful in the role, you will have:
1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (or higher) in Engineering, preferably in Mechanical, Industrial, or Process Engineering.
2. Six Sigma Black Belt qualified.
3. In-depth understanding of engineering principles, especially related to process engineering and operational improvements.
4. Proven experience in a CI/process engineering role within a testing business, manufacturing, or production environment.
5. Demonstrated success in implementing process improvements and efficiency gains.
6. Proficiency in CI/PI methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, and 5S.
7. Relevant professional certifications such as Six Sigma (Green Belt or Black Belt) and Lean Manufacturing.
8. Proficiency in process mapping, data analysis software, and project management tools.
9. Strong knowledge of data analysis techniques and tools for process optimization and KPI development.
10. Excellent project management skills, including planning, execution, and monitoring of multiple projects simultaneously.
11. Ability to engage, influence, and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
12. Strong problem-solving abilities with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing issues.
