Summary of the role
To lead a small team working in our datacentre facilities 24/7. Responsible for the day-to-day activities of a data centre from an IT operational perspective and physical security. Overseeing the company's servers and networks, implementing preventative measures to ensure effective operations, prevent errors, and keep physical systems running smoothly by providing hands-on support to Diligenta's IT infrastructure and Network teams. Ability to liaise and build good working relationships with key third-party providers.
Recovery activities in response to business incidents impacting site/IT service availability.
What you'll be doing
1. Install, test, and maintain a wide range of IT infrastructure and cabling within data centres.
2. Laying and testing fibre cabling.
3. Develop project documentation and provide technical advice as an authority.
4. Supervise on-site staff to ensure project tasks, change activities, and daily operations meet standards.
5. Support the IT Computer and Data Centre Operations Manager in maintaining standards, procedures, health and safety, and infrastructure performance.
6. Create, review, and approve job tickets; coordinate implementation with project managers and technical teams.
7. Ensure 24/7 data centre operation through daily audits and performance reporting.
8. Support shift and on-call work outside normal hours.
9. Maintain accurate rack inventory details.
10. Provide remote hands support services when needed.
11. Assist in monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintaining infrastructure supporting multi-platform systems.
12. Manage tape/media.
13. Perform physical security checks.
What we're looking for
1. Grade 4 GCSE or above in Maths and English.
2. Experience leading a team.
3. Proven knowledge and hands-on experience in a data centre environment.
4. Strong technical skills in hardware management, backup processes (Brightstor, Netbackup, Commvault), server hardware, ILO configuration, and data centre infrastructure.
5. Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
6. Strong organizational skills for task prioritization and managing multiple projects.
7. Experience working within an ITIL framework and a drive for continual improvement.
