I am currently recruiting a Freelance Archaeological Clerk of Works on a major Highways upgrade in Cumbria.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the provision of professional advice to the project team on the progress of the archaeological programme on a major Highways project.
Responsibilities:
1. Advising the client on mitigation of the impacts of the development on the archaeological resource. This might include avoidance, micro-siting, design alternatives or preservation through excavation and recording.
2. Liaise with all relevant bodies and individuals, including the developer, design teams, site contractors, Local Planning Authorities and stakeholders.
3. Carrying out monitoring and excavations, preparing method statements and producing regular reports on progress to the client and for planning authorities.
4. Examining issues, making practical decisions quickly, before delays escalate.
5. Building a positive working relationship between the ACow and the main contractor, designers, local authority curators and other stakeholders.
Qualifications:
1. Experience of archaeological site works.
2. Qualified to degree level in archaeology or relevant discipline or equivalent professional experience.
3. Membership of CIfA and/or other appropriate professional body.
