About the role :
The Public Health Officer (PHO) reports directly to the Team Leader within the Goulburn Valley Public Health Unit. The PHO is responsible for taking appropriate action to monitor and respond as required to notifiable diseases in the community. The PHO will act promptly, prioritise effectively and maintain data accuracy and integrity at all times. The PHO conducts case and contact interviews in order to establish acquisition links, identify high risk and sensitive settings and provide public health recommendations. The PHO also provides advice to organisations on the management of outbreaks of notifiable conditions and will make appropriate recommendations for testing, care pathways, clinical services and other essential support services as required. In undertaking these duties, the PHO will be supported by the Team Leaders and an experienced team of public health practitioners.
The successful applicant will have :
* Relevant tertiary qualifications, or minimum 2 years experience working in public health / health protection;
* Ability to work shift work, including on-call as required;
* Ability to attend on-site within the GVPHU region as required;
* Flexibility and adaptability to support changing priorities at short notice and able to work effectively in a fast paced and dynamic environment;
* Ability to work and communicate effectively with all levels of staff and stakeholders;
* Strong problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and the ability to prioritise tight timelines.
