To further enhance our patients' experience and to bolster making them and their families feel as comfortable as possible, we have a new opening for a Catering Manager / Head Chef to join and lead our friendly and close-knit catering team based at our Practice Plus Group Hospital, Shepton Mallet.
Responsible for the management, development and delivery of all aspects of the catering service within the Hospital. Ensuring that the preparation and presentation of food complies with the required standards and costs are controlled within budget whilst maximising the customer experience through the production of interesting and creative menus.
This role would need the applicant to work 37.5 hours a week, it has no set days but we would offer a flexible working pattern over the 7 days of the week our kitchen is open.
Salary is competitive and based on experience.
What you'll be doing
Reporting to the Operations Manager, you the Catering Manager will be responsible for managing all catering requirements within the hospital, through effective management of the Ward Kitchen and Café catering staff. You will ensure set rotas are in place for the catering department and provide an efficient high quality dedicated food and beverage service.
You will be operating in line with recognised food hygiene standards and in compliance with set company policies and procedures.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Management duties:
* Provide clear and consistent leadership to all staff in the catering department, maintaining a visible presence in line with the catering operational plan.
* To lead in the recruitment and selection process of staff positions, sickness reviews, informal and formal disciplinary issues, poor performance and use of agency/bank staff.
* Provide leadership to all levels of staff, ensuring that discipline is maintained and all staff have the opportunity to achieve their maximum potential via development, training, and competency based assessments through Staff Development Reviews.
* Plan and organise workload and staff skill mix availability to accommodate all department throughput and provide adequate cover in order to provide an efficient service.
* Responsible for ensuring that all equipment used in the department is in good working order and is used appropriately.
* To take responsibility for ensuring stock levels are maintained and that re-ordering of equipment and stores are in line with company policy and within department budget.
* To raise purchase order in line with policy - Agresso.
* To audit and assist with the introduction of changes in practice, which improve the quality of service.
Core Responsibilities
* To ensure that foodstuffs are used correctly so that wastage is kept to a minimum and staff are trained to effect good portion control.
* To ensure that all menus are developed to take into account special dietary requirements.
* To work with the kitchen team to prepare and produce meals.
* Personally meet patients to discuss dietary requirements subject to patient requirements, staff requirements or as a random check.
* Respond to any report of patient dissatisfaction with catering service, providing a personal approach to resolution.
* Maintain an electronic catering accounts system.
* Responsible for weekly banking of cash income.

Qualifications:
* Minimum NVQ III in a catering discipline or City and Guilds 204/205/206.
* Advanced hygiene certificate.
* Level 2 Food Hygiene.
