Lecturer in Digital Arts
The Department of Film & Media is seeking to appoint a highly motivated and well-organised applicant to the role of Lecturer in Digital Arts to teach on the BA (Hons) Computer Games Programming and Design course, as well as other degree courses where appropriate. We are looking to appoint a candidate with industry experience, and one who is at ease delivering lectures within HE at undergraduate level. The successful applicant will have industry knowledge of both computer games programming and game design, and an up-to-date working knowledge of the fast-paced nature of the profession. The ability to lesson plan for seminars and deliver lectures is a must. The successful candidate must be efficient using both Unity and Unreal Engine’s C# and C++ software. They must be resourceful, self-motivated, have excellent communication skills, be a good team worker and be able to demonstrate an aptitude to problem solve requests while dealing tactfully with students. The ability to work under pressure is essential.
Essential Criteria
1. Industry experience of computer games programming and game design, and relevant knowledge of the wider creative industries.
2. Experience (ideally two years) of HE teaching/lecturing in both disciplines highlighted above.
3. Efficient with both Unity and Unreal Engine's scripting (C#/C++).
4. Deep knowledge and understanding of both graphics (SDL, DirX) and network programming.
5. Ability to achieve Fellow Status as part of the Higher Education Academy’s Professional Recognition scheme, within agreed timescales (as soon as is practicably possible and definitely within three years of commencement of employment).
Desirable Criteria
1. An in-depth knowledge of specialist subject and professional areas within computer games programming and design.
2. It would be beneficial if the successful candidate has released at least two titles as a programmer or designer.
3. A good understanding of pedagogy.
4. The ability to develop and update teaching materials to create current and engaging sessions.
5. An in-depth understanding of research/enterprise and scholarly activity.
6. Ability to identify areas requiring improved performance e.g. student numbers, student satisfaction.
