Claxton is looking to hire a Head of HSE on a full-time, permanent basis. The Head of HSE will lead Health, Safety, and Environment initiatives, ensuring regulatory compliance and helping to foster a culture of safety and engagement among our employees. This role is critical in maintaining our commitment to the highest standards of HSE across all operations. The role holder will lead the development and implementation of HSE strategies, policies, and procedures to drive continuous improvement and employee wellbeing, and implementation of sustainable business practices towards a Net Zero carbon footprint goal.
This role offers a hybrid model and is flexible in location; ideally, you will be located near a Claxton Facility in Aberdeen, Great Yarmouth, or Stavanger.
Duties & Main Responsibilities
* Provide strategic direction and leadership for the HSE function globally.
* Collaborate with senior management to integrate HSE objectives into business operations.
* Lead and mentor the HSE team, ensuring continuous development and performance excellence.
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance HSE performance and sustainability.
* Develop a comprehensive HSE strategy aligned with the company’s overall business goals.
* Implement the HSE strategy across all global sites, ensuring consistency and effectiveness.
* Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the HSE strategy, adjusting as necessary.
* Identify emerging HSE trends and best practices to incorporate into the strategy.
* Proactive engagement with customers on HSE matters.
* Develop, implement, and maintain HSE policies and procedures in compliance with local, national, and international regulations.
* Monitor and ensure adherence to all relevant HSE legislation and standards.
* Conduct regular audits and inspections to identify and mitigate risks.
* Liaise with regulatory bodies and ensure timely reporting and documentation.
* Ensure HSE compliance and engagement of contractors in the onboarding process and during operations.
* Promote a culture of safety and environmental responsibility throughout the organization.
* Lead HSE training programs and initiatives to enhance employee awareness and competence.
* Engage with employees at all levels to foster a proactive approach to HSE.
* Develop and implement communication strategies to keep the workforce informed and motivated regarding HSE matters.
* Develop and implement sustainability initiatives to reduce the company’s environmental footprint.
* Promote sustainable practices and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
* Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to drive sustainability projects.
* Monitor and report on sustainability performance, setting targets for continuous improvement.
* Educate and engage employees on sustainability practices and their importance.
* Oversee the investigation of incidents and near-misses, ensuring root cause analysis and corrective actions are implemented.
* Maintain an incident reporting system and ensure timely and accurate reporting.
* Develop and implement emergency response plans and procedures.
* Day-to-day management of direct reports, including performance management and expectation setting via goals and deliverables.
Requirements
* Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
* NEBOSH Level 6 diploma.
* Minimum of 10 years of experience in HSE management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
* Extensive knowledge of HSE regulations and standards including UK, Norway, and USA.
* Proven track record of successfully managing HSE in a global, multi-site environment.
* Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to engage and inspire employees at all levels.
