We are looking for a Process Chemist to join our brand new facility just outside of Redruth About Us: We are leading the way in renewable energy innovation as we develop the UK’s first geothermal power plant at United Downs, near Redruth, Cornwall. With two deep wells successfully drilled, the power plant is now entering its commissioning phase. Alongside this, we are embarking on an exciting project to establish a lithium demonstration plant, leveraging the naturally occurring lithium in geothermal brine. We are seeking a Process Chemist to play a pivotal role in advancing the lithium project, contributing to Cornwall's emergence as a leader in sustainable lithium production and renewable energy. Role Overview: As a Process Chemist, you will: Operate and refine the lithium process demonstration plant. Contribute to the design and construction of a commercial-scale lithium production facility. Collaborate with power plant staff to manage corrosion and scaling issues. Ensure full compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards. This role will be based on-site in Cornwall and offers a unique opportunity to work on innovative projects within a growing team committed to net-zero carbon by 2030. What We’re Looking For: Essential: A degree in chemistry or chemical engineering. At least three years of experience in extractive chemistry or a related field. Familiarity with hydrometallurgical processes or chemical interactions in technical innovations. Proven ability in design development and risk assessment for chemical processes. Experience managing laboratory processes. Knowledge of Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) methods, such as ion-exchange or adsorption. Desirable: Passion for renewable energy and Cornwall’s transition to net-zero carbon. Ability to thrive in a results-driven team and adapt to a fast-moving environment.
