Job Title – Design Lead – Environment Division Location – Staffordshire Purpose of the Role: As Design Lead you will be an important member of the wider Engineering Design Team and work closely with the Design Delivery Manager(s), Design Manager(s), Discipline Managers, Principal Engineer(s), and Multi-disciplinary Designer(s). The Design Lead will have responsibility for the efficient delivery of engineering and design at project level, this will be on either small projects reporting directly to the Design Delivery Manager or on larger and/or more complex projects with the mentor support of a Design Manager. The Design Lead will communicate clear responsibilities between design, project engineering and procurement at every project level. As Design Lead you will mentor prospective future Design Leads and provide Line Management as required. Key Accountabilities: Lead the provision of engineering design solutions from inception to completion of multi-disciplinary projects; utilising in-house resources, design partners and construction personnel. Work alongside peers to ensure scheme designs adhere to client specifications and standards, operational requirements and retain appropriate levels of operational security. Apply the principles of “Doing the right thing” in maximising value and profit. Implement and comply with Galliford Try’s SHE policy and procedures, all legal requirements, and best practice within the business unit creating a knowingly safe environment. Ensure compliance with the GT BMS and other relevant management systems. Responsible for the preparation of financial budgets and programmes for design activities and the management of projects with tasks and activities being tracked accurately. Responsible for providing reports to facilitate the overall dashboard in relation to budget, change and risk management. Develop strong relationships with the Project Delivery and Commercial teams to ensure continuous communication and attendance at project programme and cost reviews. Work alongside Principal Engineers and the Design team to ensure scheme designs adhere to client specifications and standards and to ensure full compliance with relevant Health, Safety and Environmental Legislation. Promote innovation, value engineering and digital design. Line management of multi-disciplinary engineers from the core Engineering team as required. Responsible to ensure key milestone reviews are undertaken with the correct stakeholders for example, buildability, HazOp, DSEAR, Design duties under CDM are fulfilled. Provide regular reports on our performance against targets to feed into the main performance dashboard. Provide monthly project and overall Cost Recovery against budget, Utilisation and Earned Value Reports in conjunction with the Design Managers. Identify and communicate change effectively and ensure all changes are closed out in a timely manner. Work with colleagues to identify resource requirements (under / over utilisation). About You Effective leadership and management experience. Excellent Communication and Stakeholder management skills. Excellent IT skills – with experience of using Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Cost / Performance management systems (e.g. Oracle). Strong team player. Focus to drive and deliver results. Attention to detail. Accurate financial reporting. Ability to add real value to the team.
