JOB SUMMARY
The Financial Controller will be responsible for overseeing the finance function, ensuring strong financial controls, and delivering timely and accurate financial reporting. The role involves managing ledgers, accruals, and the preparation of management accounts, as well as working closely with the CFO to integrate business processes. The successful candidate will lead a team of three direct reports: Accounts Payable/Receivable, Credit Controller, and Assistant Accountant.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Oversee and manage day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, receivable, and credit control functions.
2. Lead and mentor a finance team of three direct reports, ensuring high performance and development.
3. Prepare and present monthly management accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with financial standards.
4. Maintain strong financial controls, oversee ledgers, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations.
5. Support the CFO in integrating business processes and financial reporting across different divisions.
6. Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning to support strategic decision-making.
7. Liaise with auditors, tax advisors, and external stakeholders as required.
8. Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and best practices.
9. Identify opportunities for process improvement and contribute to the ongoing enhancement of financial systems.
IDEAL CANDIDATE CRITERIA
1. Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
2. Proven experience in a Financial Controller or similar role within an SME environment.
3. Strong technical accounting skills, including ledger management, accruals, and financial reporting.
4. Experience using Microsoft Business Central or similar financial ERP systems (desirable but not essential).
5. Excellent leadership and team management skills.
6. Strong commercial acumen with the ability to influence and support business decision-making.
7. Highly organised, detail-oriented, and able to work under pressure.
8. Strong communication skills with the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
