Job Summary
The Trust has for some years provided undergraduate teaching to medical students from the University of Birmingham and the University of Warwick.
Following the University of Birmingham's 2014 curriculum review, the College of Medical and Dental Sciences has established a Clinical Teaching Academy at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, which provides clinical teaching for years 3, 4 and 5 medical students from the University of Birmingham. Clinical teaching is also provided for graduate entry medical students from the University of Warwick and Three Counties Medical School.
These changes have led to an increase in the teaching demands on medical staff and this post is one of a number of Clinical Teaching Fellow posts. Exposure to a clinical specialty of the successful applicant's choice will be encouraged.
Main duties of the job
TEACHING
To contribute to teaching across the Undergraduate Curriculum for years 3, 4 and 5 medical students from University of Birmingham; to contribute to the teaching of medical students from University of Warwick/Three Counties Medical School; contribute to the teaching and support of other medical students (such as elective students) at the discretion of Head/Deputy Head of Academy. It is expected that the Fellow will commit a minimum of 7 sessions per week to undergraduate teaching.
To assist with organisation, monitoring and teaching of the undergraduate teaching programme.
To assist in reviewing the current structure and organisation of undergraduate teaching within the medical specialties in order to instigate appropriate modifications.
To contribute to specific teaching in the relevant specialties including simulation, master classes and induction programmes.
Act as an examiner for Birmingham and Warwick Medical Students as required.
Accountability, with respect to the performance of teaching duties to the Head of Academy.
The post provides the opportunity to study part-time for a clinical educational qualification. This is strongly encouraged.
About Us
The Undergraduate Teaching Academy accommodates students from Warwick, Birmingham and Three Counties Medical Schools. Students attend their MBChB clinical placements from Year 3 to Year 5. Each University supplies a curriculum to achieve the MBChB Degree, with each year having specific placements. The Undergraduate Teaching Academy provides a service and a responsibility to the universities to ensure opportunities are available for each placement with input from either specialist or general Clinical Teaching Fellows in order that learning objectives can be met to produce foundation doctors in line with the GMC Outcomes for Graduates.

Job responsibilities
CLINICAL
The Clinical Teaching Fellow will be encouraged to gain exposure to a clinical specialty of their choice for 2 sessions per week.
It is expected that the successful candidate will be allocated a minimum of 7 regular sessions each week to clinical teaching for students. One session per week will be allocated to preparation, audit and CPD. The teaching sessions will be timetabled flexibly to accommodate the students' other commitments. Candidates will be required to work across two sites, the Alexandra Hospital and Worcestershire Royal Hospital, in order to accommodate the Undergraduate Academy's ability to meet medical student learning outcomes within the current training programmes.
On clinical days the Fellow will work alongside the other junior doctors in their specialty of choice and undertake general duties.

* Eligible for full GMC Registration with a Licence to practise at the time of appointment. GMC registered
* MBChB, MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
* Satisfactory completion of F2 training, or equivalent.
* ALS certification OR alternative specialty advanced qualification (such as APLS / ATLS) with adult BLS. All certificates to be in date at time of application
Desirable
* Higher degree.
* MRCP/MRCS Part I
* Membership examination with the relevant UK Royal College.
* Train the Teacher / Teach the Teacher or equivalent course.
* Formal further qualification in medical education eg. PGCert.
* Formal simulation training.

* Completed at least 2 years full time postgraduate training (or equivalent gained on part time basis) or have equivalent experience and competencies, at least eight months of which will be in Medicine/Surgery.
* Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required at CT/ST1 level in relevant specialty. Equivalent years experience in a relevant specialty from other medical grades including from overseas will also be accepted.
* Experience of working in multidisciplinary teams.
* Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems, both emergency and elective, within specialty and sufficient experience.
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.

* Previous experience working in the NHS within the specialty.
