We have an exciting opportunity for an Accounts Assistant (VAT – European) to join our Finance team at the Business Service Centre in Caerphilly. In this role, you will work closely with our Finance colleagues to deliver a world-class accounting service across the UK and European business areas.
As an Accounts Assistant (VAT – European), you will be responsible for data analysis, account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
* VAT & Intrastat Returns: Prepare and analyse monthly VAT and Intrastat returns, ensuring compliance with internal and external deadlines.
* Reconciliations: Reconcile balance sheet accounts for multiple entities, identifying and resolving discrepancies within SLAs.
* Process & Compliance: Maintain detailed process notes and audit trails to meet statutory requirements.
* Investigations: Conduct investigations into irregularities or variances, making adjustments or escalating issues to the line manager when necessary.
* Continuous Learning: Participate in Group Tax training to develop and maintain knowledge of evolving financial regulations.
About You
We’re looking for an analytical and detail-oriented finance professional with a strong understanding of accounting processes. You will have a proactive approach to problem-solving and be confident in working within a fast-paced, team-driven environment.
Minimum Requirements:
* Solid understanding of accounting processes
* Strong analytical skills with keen attention to detail
* High level of computer literacy, ideally with Excel and SAP proficiency
* Excellent customer service skills
* Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
* Experience in Accounts Payable (AP) and reconciliations, including balance sheets and supplier statement reconciliations (preferred)

Location: Caerphilly - we operate a hybrid model, so you'll spend 3 days a week in the office and 2 at home as standard.
