Job Description
General Summary: Assists the Laboratory Section Supervisor and/or Laboratory Manager in the operational and/or technical management of assigned section(s) by ensuring proper day to day operations of the laboratory discipline(s) and serves as a resource person for problem solving. Responds to changes in workload as necessary, and leads adjustments in work assignments in real-time fashion in the absence of the supervisor. The Lead is accountable for ensuring that appropriate and timely specimen handling, delivery, specimen testing, results reporting and customer service are provided in an efficient and cost-effective manner in accordance with laboratory and hospital policies and procedures. The Lead works independently in cooperation with the Laboratory Section Supervisor or Laboratory Manager and/or Out Patient Service Center Manager (if applicable). In the absence of a supervisor, may be designated to serve as acting supervisor, with all incumbent duties of the supervisor.
Responsibilities:
1. Assists the Laboratory Section Supervisor and/or Laboratory Manager in the operational and/or technical management of assigned section(s) by ensuring proper day to day operations of the laboratory discipline(s) and serves as a resource person for problem solving.
2. Performs all procedures within prescribed turnaround times. Performs proficiency testing with thorough and timely documentation.
3. Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by utilizing supplies appropriately to avoid wastage.
4. Assigns tasks to staff scheduled in their section on a daily basis and is responsible for training and competency of students and section personnel.
5. Embraces culture of safety by ensuring all Infection Control / Safety protocols are followed at all times.
6. Reviews applicable regulatory standards and brings any instances of non-compliance to the attention of the section supervisor.
7. Performs, analyzes, and reports statistical analysis of data.
8. All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.
Required Education, Credential(s) and Experience:
Education: Bachelor Degree; Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university, including 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of biological science (with one semester in microbiology), 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of chemistry (with one semester in organic or biochemistry), one semester (one quarter) of mathematics. (OR Associates Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology for Incumbents in position prior to 2005).
Credential(s): Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist
Experience: Required: Three years of relevant experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Laboratory Technician or equivalent position in a high-complexity laboratory.
Shift: Full Time, 80 Hours, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm
