Job Role
The post holder will oversee the delivery of the Greatwood alternative education provision, working with a wide range of learners presenting various additional needs. The former racehorses and other animals here at Greatwood form an integral part of the education programmes and therefore some animal handling and husbandry is expected.

Main Tasks
1. Take overall responsibility for the development of Greatwood’s alternative education programmes and members of the education team, including performance management.
2. Organise the effective distribution and direction of the teaching staff within the classroom and support the development of an effective and efficient team.
3. Develop and maintain a broad and balanced curriculum and range of interventions, in accordance with the needs and circumstances of the learners.
4. Facilitate delivery of alternative education provision to individuals or groups of learners.
5. Provide specialist support, where necessary, to vulnerable young people, including those
with SEN, SEMH and those at risk of exclusion.
6. Ensure the learner voice is heard and utilised in any decisions made regarding the curriculum.
7. Provide cover for other teaching staff where required.
8. Take a proactive role in the recruitment of learners and maximising income potential.
9. Contribute to administration tasks appropriate to the role, including the collection and collation of data and reporting to a range of stakeholders.
10. Demonstrate practical animal handling skills with due regard to the safety of learners and the welfare of animals.
11. Be proactive in sourcing potential funding from the government, local authority, and charitable trusts, in conjunction with the Head of Fundraising and Communications.
12. Communicate and present to a range of stakeholders.
The post holder will also be expected to –
· Be Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for the charity.
· Be the main point of contact for NOCN and 1st4sport awarding bodies.
· Demonstrate model behaviours that are consistent with an open and inclusive style.
· Be proactive in identifying and pursuing opportunities to maintain continued professional development.
· Comply with the charity’s quality monitoring policies and procedures.
· Support, advise and contribute to the strategic vision of Greatwood’s Management Team and Directors.
· Communicate and co-operate with specialists from outside agencies, schools, and parents/carers to provide an effective multi-agency service.
· To provide occasional assistance at fundraising events outside of regular working hours.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
· A full, recognised teaching qualification
· A degree (or equivalent) qualification in a relevant subject
· An assessor qualification (A1/CAVA)
Desirable
· An IQA qualification (or willingness to obtain)
· Appropriate SEND/SEMH related qualifications
· A mental health qualification – e.g., Level 2 Awareness in Mental Health; Mental Health First Aid, etc.
Knowledge
· Thorough knowledge and up to date training of safeguarding and how it relates to the work of this role and the charity.
· An understanding and appreciation of the issues faced with SEN/SEMH, including risk factors relating to self-esteem, social skills and risk-taking behaviours.
· Knowledge of basic animal welfare and husbandry.
Experience
· Leading and supporting a team to ensure effective programme delivery.
· Working effectively with primary, secondary, and adult learners, particularly those requiring SEN and SEMH support.
· Effective classroom management when faced with challenging behaviours.
· Curriculum design and interventions for learners with additional needs.
· Use of CRM systems (Raiser’s Edge NXT) would be beneficial.
· Liaising with commissioners and partner agencies.

The post holder will also –

Salary: Band range M5 to U3 (depending on experience)
