We are seeking a passionate, dedicated, and adaptable Science Teacher with experience or a strong understanding of working with students who have Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This role offers the opportunity to work in a supportive and dynamic environment, delivering high-quality Science education to children and young people aged 6 to 17. As an SEMH Science Teacher, you will play a key role in facilitating a nurturing and engaging learning environment for students with diverse needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach Science to students across a range of abilities, including Entry Level, Functional Skills, Key Stage 3, and GCSE.
- Adapt and differentiate the Science curriculum to meet the unique needs of students with SEMH, ensuring lessons are accessible and engaging.
- Provide support for students with SEMH needs by creating a safe and inclusive classroom environment that encourages positive emotional and social development.
- Collaborate with colleagues, including subject experts and non-specialists, to create a comprehensive and effective learning experience for students.
- Develop and implement individualized learning plans and strategies for students, taking into account their SEMH and other special educational needs (SEND).
- Monitor and assess student progress, providing feedback and tailored support to ensure continuous improvement and achievement.
- Foster a trauma- and attachment-informed approach in your teaching practices, using therapeutic methods to support students' emotional and mental health.
- Work closely with parents/carers, therapy teams, and local authority staff to ensure a holistic approach to each student's learning and development.
- Participate in regular training and professional development opportunities to enhance your knowledge of SEMH, SEND, and best practices in Science education.
- Support the wider school community by contributing to extracurricular activities, school events, and the development of a positive school culture.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
- Strong subject knowledge and a degree in Science or a related field.
- Experience teaching Science at various levels (Entry Level, Functional Skills, Key Stage 3, GCSE).
- Understanding and experience working with students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
- Knowledge of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including Autism, ADHD, and communication difficulties, is desirable.
- Ability to differentiate teaching strategies and adapt lessons to meet the needs of individual students.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders.
- Passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of students with SEMH and SEND.
- Patient, empathetic, and resilient, with a strong commitment to supporting the emotional and academic development of students.
- A flexible and adaptable approach to teaching in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
