Senior Environmental Hydraulic Modeller
Are you experienced in environmental modelling and interested in mentoring junior staff? Do you thrive in a team environment with site-based work experience?
JBA Consulting is seeking an Environment-Focused Hydraulic Modeller to support our Catchment and River Restoration teams. The role involves Natural Flood Management studies and River Restoration projects.
The key responsibilities include:
* Analyzing datasets, GIS, and modelling outputs.
* Providing technical advice on River and Catchment Restoration.
* Leading Environmental Hydraulic modelling (1D and 2D), especially in Hec-RAS and/or TUFLOW.
* Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to guide design processes.
* Writing and reviewing reports.
* Field work focused on Geomorphology, River Restoration, and NFM.
* Mentoring junior staff.
* Managing projects to meet deadlines, budgets, and quality standards.
* Presenting at client meetings and workshops, engaging with stakeholders.
* Leading tenders for new projects.
Location:
Flexible; based in Saltaire or Coleshill with support for agile working.
Qualifications and Experience:
Ideal candidates are organized, motivated, enthusiastic, and flexible, with proven environmental experience and water/environmental interests. Strong analytical and communication skills are essential.
Applicants should have broad experience with NFM and river restoration, understanding of fluvial geomorphology, hydraulics, hydrology, and ecology. Willingness to travel within the UK and Ireland is required.
Degree or equivalent in geography or science, with professional experience. Chartered status (ICE, CIWEM, CGeog) is valued, with a desire to attain chartered status.
Essential Skills:
* Understanding of Nature-Based Solutions for catchment resilience.
* Experience working within multi-disciplinary teams and explaining environmental benefits.
* Site-based field work experience.
* Proficiency in hydraulic modelling software (Flood Modeller, HEC-RAS, TUFLOW).
* Understanding of UK catchment hydrology.
* Project management and client relationship skills.
* Mentoring and supporting junior staff.
* Experience with GIS, report writing, and quality assurance.
* Valid UK Driving Licence.
Desirable Skills:
* Understanding sediment transport, erosion, and deposition.
* Contract management.
