The Gateshead Learning Disability Team is pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Occupational Therapist. The post holder will carry out occupational therapy assessments and treatment and be supported by the clinical team.
A professional registration is required for the role of Band 5 Occupational Therapist.
We are a multidisciplinary community team working across Gateshead with individuals with complex needs. The successful post holder will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to high-quality patient care, good organisational skills, and the ability to prioritise workload. Key components of the role will be to ensure the service offers a safe, caring, responsive, and well-led service.
The role will include liaising with agencies such as social care, service providers, inpatient services, and safeguarding, alongside a range of other agencies. Within this team, we pride ourselves on having a broad range of knowledge within these selected areas and the ability to manage associated risks.

Main Duties of the Job
1. Be responsible for the assessment and management of a caseload of patients with substantial and complex needs.
2. Provide specialist clinical advice to patients, families, carers, staff, statutory agencies, third sector partner agencies, and the public.
3. Provide high-quality assessment and care, alongside offering the wider team support, advice, and supervision.
4. Work collaboratively with patients to develop care plans and recovery and wellbeing plans, ensuring patients have access to regular reviews to monitor progress and adapt care plans as necessary.
5. Consider carer needs and ensure carers and families are involved in care planning where appropriate.
6. Deliver evidence-based clinical interventions.
7. Work as a member of the Multi-disciplinary Team to ensure high-quality individualised care is delivered, promoting recovery, wellbeing, and maximising independence.
8. Coordinate treatment planning, interventions, clinical reviews, and discharge planning.
9. Provide clinical supervision to staff as delegated by the Pathway Manager and Clinical Leads.
10. Provide compassionate care based on empathy, kindness, respect, and dignity.
11. Incorporate a patient-centred philosophy into nursing practice and collaborative care.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Recognised Occupational Therapy degree qualification
* Registered with HCPC
* Evidence of post-registration training in clinical interventions/skills relevant to the post
* Member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapy
Knowledge
* Awareness and understanding of professional accountability, HCPC and RCOT standards, and other local and national initiatives
* Experience of working with service users and carers in successful delivery of intervention plans
* Multi-disciplinary teamwork
* Knowledge of relevant contemporary professional theories and evidence-based interventions
* Previous experience/knowledge of working in a community setting
* Proven ability to develop therapeutic partnerships with service users and carers
* Knowledge/experience of working with individuals with a learning disability
Skills
* Proven ability to communicate interventions to service users and demonstrate effective written and communication skills
* Skills in assessing and managing risk
* Commitment to using research skills in practice
* Skills in reflective practice and being proactive in seeking advice
