Job summary An exciting opportunity for an appropriately qualified candidate has arisen in the South West Hampshire Pain Management Service within Hampshire and IOW Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. The successful applicant will be involved in delivery of a psychology service to the SW Pain Team locality. The postholder will receive clinical supervision, professional support and management from the HIOW Healthcare Trust Pain and LTC Psychology Team. Operational line management will be provided by the clinical service manager for the South West Hampshire pain management service. Our teams form a strong network of supportive and like-minded professionals. We have psychological professionals of all grades and a variety of backgrounds working in our teams and can provide an overarching structure of progression and support including supervision, professional management, CPD and peer reflection. The primary focus of the service is on the supported self-management of chronic pain but the service works within a biopsychosocial model of pain which recognises a role for medical interventions and medications. Our delivery of supported self-management is particularly aligned with Third Wave Behaviour Therapies. Experience is preferred in pain or related long term health conditions, but we would consider interviewing psychologists who, with appropriate support, could bring transferable skills from other areas to this work. Experience of working in a mental health setting is also highly relevant to this post. Main duties of the job Ensure the systematic provision of high-quality specialist psychological services for patients and their families / carers referred to the Pain Management Service, with an emphasis on co-production, dealing primarily with complex psychological problems and supporting the development of a psychological milieu and a trauma informed approach to care. To undertake complex assessments and intervention strategies, including specialist neuropsychological assessment; offer consultancy and provide expert advice to colleagues, and the wider clinical multi-professional team, other agencies and non-professional carers. Provide leadership, consultation, supervision and support to psychologists, psychological therapists and other members of the clinical team within the Pain Management Service. Work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of psychological practice within the service. Utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and act as a highly specialist resource to the wider professional community. The post-holder will propose and implement policy changes within Psychological Services, working closely with other members of the Psychological Services Leadership Team, and Consultant Clinical Psychologist for Long Term Conditions. This will include a role in effective recruitment, professional appraisal, and the identification of CPD needs (where appropriate).
