Job summary
We are a busy practice in Merton looking for a Healthcare Assistant to join our friendly team.
The Healthcare Assistant will share responsibility for the treatment room and the performance of routine nursing related duties.
Previous experience of GP practice and EMIS would be an advantage. Must be able to work under pressure, be organised, have good communication skills and be part of a dynamic and supportive team.
Main duties of the job
Phlebotomy duties.
to take and, where appropriate, despatch laboratory specimens including blood,
urine, swabs and other diagnostic tests as required by GPs.
Carrying out blood pressure checks as well as fitting and removal of the 24 hour blood pressure monitor.
To advise patients on health care, minor ailments, health promotion and illness prevention.
To support the nursing team in:- Antenatal clinics, Diabetic clinics, Flu clinics, Minor operations, Coil and Implant clinics
To undertake basic wound care and suture/clip removal, assisting the nurses.
To undertake NHS Health checks
To administer flu, pneumonia, and B12 injections having been adequately trained.
To assist in the management of the treatment room, stock control and ordering of drugs, leaflets and medical supplies.
To ensure that all medical equipment is regularly and adequately maintained and in date and ensure that all clinical rooms are adequately stocked with medical equipment etc.
To ensure that fridge temperatures are regularly monitored.
To maintain high standards of tidiness, hygiene and safety in the use of all equipment and areas of work, in line with the Practice Infection Control Policy
To attend course and study days as required or thought necessary to maintain high standards.

Job responsibilities
1 To provide delegated healthcare supporting the multi-professional team in delivering care to patients using service.
2 Phlebotomy services taking bloods as requested by the Nurse and GP and refer to the GP and Nurse as necessary and in accordance to agreed clinical guidelines.
3 Blood Pressure, Urine Tests, Heights and Weights, Body Mass Index and /or Waist Measurement and recording as required
4 ECG, Spirometry, and care planning
5 Provide support to the nursing team with Chronic Disease care for patients
6 To be responsible for stocking toilets with urine sample pots and Chlamydia forms & to regularly check reception for urine samples left by patients and action as appropriate whenever on duty
7 To undertake NHS Health Checks
8 To promote the Chlamydia Screening Programme to all 16 24 yr olds (incl)
9 To support the chronic disease management monitoring by providing support to the nursing team and ensuring accurate data entry into SystmOne
10 To provide chaperone and assistance to the clinician during designated minor surgery clinics as directed
11 To refer and report any investigation / examination findings and results to the appropriate professional.
12 To support patients in accessing different professionals by listening to their request / problem and directing them to the appropriate health professional or other staff member and to provide basic health advice and support the patient in seeking and accessing professional guidance in making health choices.
13 To ensure that the condition of clinical rooms is maintained in accordance to infection control and service guidelines.
