The Home
Longfield Care Home is situated in the outskirts of the Village of Eglinton and ten miles from the city of Derry. Longfield Care Home facilitates 35 General Nursing residents in the Foyle Unit & Faughan Unit, and 11 Residential Dementia residents in the Moore Suite Unit. Longfield Care Home received two awards at the 2024 Staff Nursing Awards. The Home Manager was highly commended in the Home Manager of the Year category. The second award was won by our Team Leader, who won the Care Assistant of the Year award.
The Role
The General Assistant role at Healthcare Ireland is a blended role, working with the Housekeeping and Kitchen team to assist with the day-to-day operations of the Home. The General Assistants in our Homes play a key role in ensuring the smooth and safe operation of our kitchens, housekeeping, and laundry functions, ensuring that residents receive high-quality meals and have a clean environment. The role is essential in the wellbeing of our residents through the provision of high-quality, person-centred surroundings.
Working as part of the Kitchen and Housekeeping team, reporting to the Housekeeper and Chef, the role is about a lot more than preparing and serving meals and cleaning – the General Assistant will support with ensuring the dietary needs of our residents are met in addition to contributing to a clean and tidy environment for our residents.
Main Responsibilities
1. Ensure the expected standards are achieved throughout the home.
2. Cover domestic, kitchen, and laundry duties – training in all 3 areas provided.
3. Identify and report any damage, faults, or other issues to maintenance or management.
4. Adhere to the cleaning and auditing schedule.
5. Use and store cleaning products in accordance with COSHH regulations.
6. Undertake any other duties that may be reasonably required as designated by the Home Manager.

Desired Criteria
* Relevant work experience in a care home/ healthcare environment.
* Previous experience gained in a domestic, laundry, or kitchen environment.
Required Criteria
* To be numerate and literate with a good standard of English.
* The Right to Work in the UK.
* Have basic knowledge of COSHH, Health and Safety, Fire, and Security Regulations.
