Youth Development Unit (YDU), which is an initiative created as part of the Government ‘Fresh Start’ youth policy, provides youth training programmes to young New Zealanders under an arrangement with several other Government agencies including the Ministry of Social Development, Ministry of Education and the New Zealand Police.
As a Physical Trainer Instructor (PTI) you will conduct physical training within our Youth Development Unit, to help improve, maintain and restore physical fitness with youth aged between 13 – 25.
The main responsibilities of this role are to:
1. Instruct classes in a range of physical training activities, mainly strength and conditioning, sports-related, and some water-based activities.
2. Organise and deliver sport and recreation activities such as sports tournaments and triathlon events.
3. Deliver individualised personal training programmes as and when required.
4. Provide nutritional advice as and when required.
To be successful in this role you will need:
1. Proven experience in delivering physical training to classes, groups, and individuals, ideally with youth.
2. A Diploma in Sport and Exercise, or equivalent.
3. Highly effective communication skills and the ability to relate well to a wide range of people.
4. A pro-active, positive, and inclusive attitude.
5. To take pride in offering the best possible service and display leadership in their area of expertise.
This role requires occasional domestic travel to other NZDF’s Camps and Bases. You need to have a Class 1 Full Driver’s Licence.
