Job summary
We are looking for a confident, capable support medical secretary to join our established team based at QEHB. Ideally you will have experience of working within the NHS. This will be a varied role that will entail providing support to Trauma & Orthopaedics secretarial and Consultant team.
Roles and responsibilities will vary and you will work alongside the team to provide a comprehensive support service to the team. This would be a great opportunity to gain experience of working within a busy, fast-paced environment. We deal with patients who are being referred via the elective pathways as well as working with patients who have come into the Hospital through the Emergency Department.
You should have experience of working with the various computer systems used within the Trust as well as a good working knowledge of MS Office. You should be an empathetic person who is able to speak to patients in a confident, calm manner.
Main duties, tasks & skills required
The post holder will provide an empathic and sensitive point of contact for patients/relatives and carers, undertaking work under the direction of the Medical Secretary Supervisors.
1. To exercise initiative and judgement based on acquired knowledge and experience when dealing with enquiries of a clinical and non-clinical nature
2. Ensure that clinic letters are sent out in accordance with the locally agreed time limits
3. Receiving and dealing with telephone enquiries as appropriate
4. Input and look up patient data on Trust IT systems in accordance with Trust policy
5. To ensure Consultant's post is opened daily and dealt with accordingly
6. To assist colleagues as directed by the Medical Secretary Supervisor in times of pressure of work
7. Co-operate in the introduction of new technology and new working practices to ensure the smooth running of the department
8. Photocopying, scanning letters and documents as required
9. Monitoring and maintaining a shared email inbox and ensuring that emails are actioned in a timely manner.
