Bilfinger UK are looking for candidates to join the business as an apprentice in Thermal Insulation Engineering for our 2025 Apprenticeship in take. Thermal Insulation Technicians apply multi-layer applications of specialist insulation systems, comprising of layers of high performance insulation, vapour barriers and weatherproof cladding. Thermal Insulation Technicians create bespoke patterns using technical drawing equipment to fabricate specialist cladding materials, which are applied on top of specialist insulation systems to complex pipework, ductwork and vessels. The cladding material is required to protect the equipment from environmental damage and for personnel protection from very hot or very cold surface temperatures, whilst maintaining the equipment within the plant. Thermal Insulation Technicians can expect to work in a supervisory capacity, mentoring and advising other operatives and assisting with the management of projects. They will ensure the appropriate standard and quality of work is maintained and that it conforms to the design specifications, taking any corrective actions they consider necessary. Thermal Insulation Technicians may work on a diverse range of sites including: Power Generation, Nuclear, Oil and Gas sites Petrochemical and Process Plants including Pharmaceutical An Apprentice Thermal Insulation Engineer assists in installing, maintaining, and repairing insulation and cladding in various industrial environments. They will participate in formal and on-the-job training to gain an understanding of thermal insulation systems, materials, and installation and cladding techniques. They will also attend college to learn and develop the skills necessary to install and maintain thermal insulation systems and cladding for industrial equipment, and pipelines etc. The apprentice will work with experienced engineers to support and execute insulation installation projects that improve energy efficiency, reduce heat loss, and ensure safe temperature regulation. Training & Learning Installation Support: Assist in the installation of thermal insulation and cladding on pipes, tanks, boilers, and ductwork to improve energy efficiency and prevent heat loss. Maintenance & Repair: Assist in the maintenance and repair of insulation systems, ensuring they remain effective and intact. Material Handling: Assist in the preparation, transportation, and storage of insulation materials, ensuring they are handled according to safety guidelines. Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols, including the proper handling of insulation materials and tools. Ensure safe working practices on-site. Technical Assistance: Help tradesmen with technical aspects of insulation, such as measuring and cutting materials to fit specific equipment or areas. Documentation & Reporting: Assist in recording and reporting work progress, project materials used, and any issues that arise during installations or repairs. Skills & Qualifications: Education: GCSEs (or equivalent) in Mathematics, English, and Science, or relevant trade-related qualifications. Skills: Basic understanding of construction and engineering principles. Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision. Strong attention to detail and safety awareness. Physical fitness and the ability to work in various environments, including confined spaces. Good communication skills and willingness to learn. Desirable: Some prior experience in a practical or hands-on role is beneficial but not required. Personal Qualities: Enthusiasm for Learning: Willing to learn and develop skills in thermal insulation and engineering. Team Player: Ability to work as part of a team and support other engineers on-site. Reliability: Dependable with a strong work ethic. Problem Solving: Ability to identify and solve minor issues as they arise. Working Conditions: The role may involve working outdoors in various weather conditions and may require lifting and handling materials. The apprentice will often work at industrial plants, The job may require working at heights or in confined spaces.
