Postdoctoral Senior Research Associate – AI, Biostatistics & Eye Biometrics
Join our dynamic organization and lead the way in AI vision research. Together, we will revolutionize the field and create groundbreaking solutions that have a tangible impact on industries and society.
Profile Summary
Solvemed, in collaboration with the University of Essex, is seeking a Postdoctoral Senior Research Associate (Senior Research Officer) to join the EyeWarn project, a large-scale research initiative focused on detecting fatigue and cognitive strain through AI-driven eye biometrics. This is an opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research in collaboration with leading institutions, including the University of Oxford and Stanford University.
Objective
The EyeWarn project is the largest-scale study of its kind, designed to detect fatigue and cognitive strain across diverse sectors of UK society, particularly in high-risk occupations. This three-year initiative brings together cutting-edge research in computer vision, deep learning, and biometric analytics to enhance fatigue detection and its real-world applications. The successful candidate will work closely with Solvemed’s multidisciplinary R&D team to develop AI-driven solutions for neuromonitoring. The role will leverage computer vision, machine learning, and statistical analysis to extract robust biometric markers of fatigue and cognitive strain from large-scale video datasets.
Responsibilities
* Development and Implementation of Advanced Analytics
o Design, implement, and document AI algorithms for deep learning, computer vision, and signal processing in the context of neuromonitoring.
o Develop and refine imaging analytics pipelines to extract key metrics from video and time-series data, particularly related to pupillometry, eye movement, and fatigue detection.
* Machine Learning and Data Processing
o Train, retrain, and optimize deep learning models, including data preparation, augmentation, and integration of additional datasets.
o Manage deep learning workflows on local devices and cloud-based environments and analyze model outputs to derive actionable insights.
* Data Analysis and Signal Processing
o Perform time-series processing and statistical analysis to extract bio-patterns and markers of cognitive strain and fatigue.
* Collaboration and Research
o Work closely with Solvemed’s R&D team to advance the project’s goals.
o Engage with other professionals to align model development and analytical pipelines with broader scientific and clinical objectives.
* Tool and Workflow Development
o Develop tools for monitoring data flow, visualization, and research platform interfaces.
o Create endpoints for accessing library functionality as a service.
o Utilize modern AI tools, including large language models (LLMs), to enhance workflow efficiency and boost team productivity.
Qualifications
* PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Mathematics, Physics, Data Science, Bioengineering, or a related discipline.
* Ability to complement and enhance the research project and department’s strengths.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Attributes
Fixed-Term, Full-time until 31 October 2027 due to funding.
Package
* Be part of a high-impact research initiative addressing fatigue and cognitive strain.
* Work with leading AI researchers at Solvemed, the University of Essex, Oxford, and Stanford.
