IndiNature is looking to recruit a recent graduate as a Trainee Production Manager. The role offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the various aspects of production management, learning how to oversee the production process, optimise resources, ensure quality control and Health & Safety compliance in a manufacturing environment.
We will consider applicants with relevant degrees in mechanical, industrial and chemical engineering as well as Business and Management degrees.

About IndiNature and the new mill
IndiNature is a growing company with a high profile - leading the way in cleantech construction material innovations. It was founded to make the largest possible positive impacts on the climate, the environment and people's health in the construction of buildings. We care about people and the planet.
The parent company (Industrial Nature Ltd) is based in Edinburgh - it is a materials R&D company focused on developing and bringing to market natural, low carbon construction products. The company set up its first manufacturing facility in the Scottish Borders and moved into the Mill in August 2021. We make natural fibre materials on scale including insulation batts and boards for both acoustic and thermal markets.
Raw materials include industrial hemp and flax fibres from UK farmers. These are processed through a non-woven textiles production line.

You will be part of the production team, and report to the Operations Manager.
Job purpose
We are looking for a Graduate Trainee Production Manager to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about sustainability, natural materials, and manufacturing. They will assist in overseeing the production process, improving efficiency and ensuring product quality on existing and new products. The role aims to provide a structured pathway for new graduates to build a comprehensive understanding of production operations and prepare for future leadership roles in production management. The job purpose revolves around skill development, process optimisation, and learning to lead teams while ensuring high standards of production, quality and safety.

Supporting Production Operations
1. Assist in the daily operations of the production process.
2. Learn to develop a production plan and schedule to ensure that products are produced efficiently and on time.
3. Prepare all production documentation on a daily basis.
4. Collaboration with all departments to ensure that production targets are met and any issues are resolved.
5. Assist in aspects of Operations Manager’s role and within a timescale provide cover.
6. Learn aspects of Supply Chain Manager’s role to understand the raw materials involved in production and the buying and sourcing methods involved.
7. Integrate with the Sales department and learn all aspects of the Sales Administrator’s role with an objective to provide cover.
8. Work with the People & Policy Manager to understand the company policies and how they are applied, reviewed, updated and developed.
9. Support the CTO with new product developments and any specific projects that may be allocated.
10. Analyse and improve production systems by identifying inefficiencies, bottlenecks and areas for improvement.
11. Develop solutions that improve productivity, reduce waste and streamline operations.
12. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement of products (for example thermal performance, moisture control, compressive strength, positive environmental impacts).
13. Support the management team in development of new materials, products and prototyping on site – exploring new fibres, blends and manufacturing processes.
14. Support all R&D, product improvement and testing for certification.
Quality Assurance and Health & Safety Compliance
1. Ensure that products meet quality standards by learning to implement quality checks, inspections and adherence to in-house and external quality standards, i.e. BBA, ISO9001 & GRS.
2. Learn to manage the QC lab and all testing equipment, including calibration.
3. Understand and apply health, safety and environmental polices to maintain a safe and compliant work environment.
Leadership Development
1. Develop leadership and problem-solving skills.
2. Prepare to take on responsibility by learning how to manage people and teams.
3. Communicate effectively with staff at all levels.
Reporting and Analysis
1. Learn to gather, analyse and monitor production KPIs.
2. Regularly report on performance, identifying successes and areas for improvement.
3. Produce meaningful data that helps makes informed decisions and improve production strategies.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Degree in relevant engineering, manufacturing, business management or related subject.
2. Experience in the reporting and analysis of data.
3. Experience of research and project work in related subject areas.
4. Experience in using Microsoft software applications.
Preferred experience / qualifications
1. Previous working/manufacturing environment experience.
2. Quality Control testing, monitoring and record keeping.
3. Application of lean manufacturing techniques for continuous improvement.
4. Knowledge of workplace Health and Safety compliance.
5. Experience of working within a team.
